Why swiping makes cleanup easier
A photo grid shows dozens of images at once. A swipe view shows one photo at a time, which can make the job easier and less tiring.
A swipe should add a photo to a temporary list, not delete the file immediately.
Use a simple decision rule
- Swipe right to keep a photo.
- Swipe left to add it to the delete list.
- Keep uncertain items instead of forcing a decision.
- Use undo when a gesture does not match your intention.
Start with one category
Do not begin with the entire library if it feels too large. Pick one month, album, screenshot collection, or media type. A smaller batch is easier to finish and check.
Choose a useful sort order
Date order is useful for reviewing an event or recent period. File-size order helps when you want to free up space. Category views let you clear screenshots or videos without mixing them with personal photos.
Confirm through iOS Photos
After the review, iOS presents the system deletion confirmation. Deleted items normally move to Recently Deleted, where Apple provides a recovery period. Permanently clear that album only after checking it carefully.
Turn cleanup into a habit
Five or ten minutes after a trip, event, or busy week can prevent thousands of low-value images from accumulating. Review recent media while you still remember which frames matter.
